Case Study: Extending Backup Retention Without Expanding On-Premises Storage
A large automotive manufacturer needed to extend its backup period beyond the 28 days supported by its existing approach. The business wanted to retain monthly backups for a year and annual backups for seven years, including critical engineering and CAD data.
Meeting those requirements entirely on-premises would have required significant additional storage capacity. ebb3 identified Wasabi cloud storage as a more cost-effective way to support long-term retention without expanding the existing infrastructure at the same rate.
The new approach keeps recent data on-premises while Wasabi provides additional capacity for longer-term storage. ebb3 manages the cloud environment alongside the customer’s existing storage and backup infrastructure, including configuration, capacity and restores.
